New ScoreGolf.com column: Can The Rock Recover
By Robert Thompson
My latest Scoregolf.com column, on the reworking of Muskoka’s The Rock golf course, and its chances of success after being closed for a year, is now posted online.
I’ll admit I haven’t seen the changes (I’ll try to get out next spring) — but that’s not the point. I’m more intrigued at whether a course that had so many issues and turned off so many consumers can be relaunched successfully. Will the public buy into The Rock after being burned once? I’m far from certain.

Rob, you mention the fairway on the Par 5 15th hole was contoured into a more receptive bowl. The 15th hole is a Par 4. I believe you were referring to the Par 5 16th hole with the large rock outcropping on the left side of the fairway. They were supposed to be blasting out a fair amount of this rock to make a wider receptive bowl landing area. I saw a number of golfers, including myself hit a nice shot and watch it roll down the sloping fairway into the rough………….
