Presidents Cup Sunday Singles — Yang V. Woods; Weir Takes on Leonard

October 10th, 2009
By Robert Thompson

Sunday singles matches — all 12 of them — have been posted at PGATour.com. Interesting:

Here’s the list with some quick thoughts:

9:10 a.m. – Camilo Villegas INT (0-3-0) vs. Hunter Mahan US (1-1-1)

Villegas has been lousy all week. Americans off to a quick start.

9:21 a.m. – Stewart Cink US (0-3-1) vs. Adam Scott INT (1-3-0)

Surprising that Cink has played poorly. Not surprising that has been the case with Scott. Cink prevails.

9:32 a.m. – Mike Weir INT (2-2-0) vs. Justin Leonard US (2-1-1)

Weir takes out Leonard. No surprise. Battle of the short hitters.

9:43 a.m. – Anthony Kim US (2-1-0) vs. Robert Allenby INT (2-1-1)

Allenby beats Kim, who has struggled this week. Scratch that — this year.

9:54 a.m. – Geoff Ogilvy INT (1-2-0) vs. Steve Stricker US (4-0-0)

Stricker handily takes out Ogilvy.

10:05 a.m. – Sean O’Hair US (1-2-1) vs. Ernie Els INT (3-1-0)

This one is interesting. Both a little questionable with their putters. Expect Els to prevail.

10:16 a.m. – Ryo Ishikawa INT (2-2-0) vs. Kenny Perry US (1-2-0)

This isn’t even a match. The old guy is playing the young kid, and Perry will show him how it is done on the PGA Tour.

10:27 a.m. – Zach Johnson US (2-2-0) vs. Tim Clark INT (1-2-1)

Short hitters battle. Call this one a draw.

10:38 a.m. – Y.E. Yang INT (2-1-1) vs. Tiger Woods US (4-0-0)

No PGA Championship rematch here. I wouldn’t be surprised it Woods wastes Yang in 13 holes.

10:49 a.m. – Lucas Glover US (0-3-0) vs. Vijay Singh INT (2-0-2)

Singh is playing solidly. If he putts well, Glover is no match. But I doubt this one will matter in the great scheme of things.

11:00 a.m. – Retief Goosen INT (0-2-1) vs. Phil Mickelson US (3-0-1)

Another match worth watching. Goosen can get the ball out there. Mickelson has been sharp. Edge to Mickelson, but this one could be fun to watch.

11:11 a.m. – Jim Furyk US (2-1-1) vs. Angel Cabrera INT (0-3-0)

Furyk, a short, but accurate driver, will defeat Cabrera, who has struggled this week.

I see the Americans taking the day, but even if this is closer than I predict, I don’t see how the International side can mount a comeback.

    Robert,

I think you should stick to reviewing golf courses instead of picking winners for golf….i was going to post yesterday but i didn’t get the chance….

if you were watching golf lately – or had your pulse on the way guys were playing….how could the perry/ryo match not even be a match?

and clark was lights out the whole weekend – he blew away zach –

woods was a good obvious pick.
