NGCOA to Honor Gary Player?

November 10th, 2009
By Robert Thompson

Okay, there’s strange, then there’s this — the National Golf Course Owners’ Association honoring Gary Player with the first “Golf Business Canada” lifetime achiecement award. Why? Can’t say. The only course he’s designed in Canada (Wildstone in Cranbrook) seems dead in the water. Other than that, I’m trying to figure out what business he’s done with Canadian golf course owners. Was Jack Nicklaus or Arnold Palmer unavailable?

Here’s the vague news, including the NGCOA “outlining the criteria for the award.” That sounds worth tuning in for.

Ottawa, ON – The NGCOA Canada will honour the Black Knight, Gary Player with the first Golf Business Canada Lifetime Achievement Award during its annual conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, November 11 – 13, 2009.

Please join Jeff Calderwood, CEO, NGCOA Canada and Mr. Gary Player for a teleconference and in-person press conference.

Date: Wednesday, November, 11, 2009
Time: 3:30 pm PST
Location: Westin Bayshore Hotel, Vancouver, BC – Fraser Room

Following remarks by Jeff Calderwood, CEO, NGCOA Canada outlining the criteria for the award, Mr. Player will address the members of the media and take questions.
