If money is no object and you don’t want to think about a thing when visiting Scotland for your golf vacation, then a package tour is for you. But if you want to plan your own trip and get a great itinerary (and save money) then you have some time and research ahead of you putting things together. But if you do things the right way, this process can be quite enjoyable and rewarding.

With the Internet at our fingertips, planning your own trip is easier than ever (probably part of the reason you are visiting this site). But the assistance of a good trip planning guide book will be invaluable in this process.

There is the usual cadre of travel guides from Fodors, Frommers, Lonely Planet – but for a golf focused publication, a book that will give you the inside scoop on St. Andrews, getting on the Old Course and which pub has the best selection of pints for travelling golfers you can’t do better than Golf in Scotland from Ferguson Golf.

I found Golf in Scotland to be very thorough and to be honest, quite invaluable in planning my trip. It has insider reviews of over 60 scottish courses, each with recommendations of the best places for golfers to stay nearby when playing them. It also has whole sections on St. Andrews, avoiding (getting pick pocvketed) by the golf tour companies, when to go, where to go and step by step instructions on setting up a trip.

So, save yourself the hassle, if you are getting started in the process of planning a Scotland golf trip, get the book. You won’t go wrong.
