Vehicle Rental options for Scotland Golf Trip

One of your most important decisions in planning your own golf trip to Scotland is making sure you set up the right transportation for your party. Do you rent a car and drive yourself or hire a driver and a vehicle to chauffeur you?

If you are traveling in a party of twelve or more, the economics of getting a driver are much better of course. But for smaller groups the price different would be tangible.

Parties of 4 or 8 are very likely to rent their own vehicle and self-drive. If you’re comfortable with directions this can definitely be the most enjoyable as well.

If you choose the self-drive route, you will find all the major global rental agencies, plus a few others.

You can check out any of the familiar names if you have a preference. Arnold Clark Rentals come very highly recommended from many travelers we’ve talked to. Although we did find them to be about the same price as the others when we planned our recent trip (they have a reputation for lower prices? Didn’t happen for us).

Another outfit to check out is 1Car1. We ended booking through this firm and they seem to be a reseller of other rental companies excess vehicles. We got a much better price here than elsewhere, but in looking at our rental chits it looks like our vehicle is really coming from Arnold Clark (and for much less than they quoted us). We’ll report back after our trip on how this works out…
