Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail – Alabama
By Jeff Lancaster
The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail is a stunning series of golf facilities built across the state of Alabama – and is fast becoming one of America’s hottest new golf hotbeds.
Friends and I paid a visit to Alabama in December 2005 – here are some of the highlights of our trip.
We flew into Atlanta and drove over the Alabama/Georgia border to Auburn (the home of the Auburn Tigers)
On Day one we played the lovely Grand National – a 54-hole facility with 2 championship courses and a full 18-hole short course (all RTJ Trail facilities have great short courses).

Next we moved on to Prattville Alabama and the highly touted Capital Hill. We had to pay a small upgrade to play ‘The Judge’, their new signature course. Plenty of water, plenty of open space. A really good course, but kind of quirky at times (see the poorly executed 18th hole).
The first hole below is a stunner though.

The big surprise of our trip was the next course we visited – Oxmoor Valley. Both the Valley course and Ridge course where wonderful. Challenging, lots of elevation change and some really great holes.

We got rained out the last day of our trip at Silver Lakes (Mindbreaker course), but all in all was a great trip. The temperatures in the 1st week of December were disappointingly chilly, but it was warmer than at home here in Toronto.
If you are looking for a different destination for your next trip, discover the Robert Trent Jones golf trail for yourself.
